![]() The cabins aren't cabins - they're very nice hotel-style rooms. No individual fire rings are allowed - you have to share a communal one sitting next to a busy road. There are numerous arbitrary rules that other State SRAs don't have. In all, the Web advertisement for these is deceptive. We had neighbors you could hear talking through the bathroom wall, even though they were being quiet. My significant other and I rented there to get some quality private time. While ReservationAmerica shows them as individual, they aren't. Here's your first warning - these aren't cabins - they are duplexes. ![]() DNR did, however, drive by the cabins at least a few times a day. Overall, if it weren't for the missing staff and mowing I would give a 5. We had someone come and mow around the cabin an hour or so before check out which seemed like a hint. Yes, you DO have to clean the cabin to look as nice as it did when you arrived, and you ARE expected to leave on time. Boating and paddle boats available to rent for a good price. There are not individual cabin picnic tables but there are a few shelters and basketball court which is very nice. There are nice paved bike trails and a few walking trails as well. There was no staff on arrival at 4pm but they came quickly when rang. Each cabin has a small outdoor grill (bring your briquettes). The park sign is small so keep your eyes out for your turn or you will miss it! There is a shared fire pit but we had it to ourselves. There are pillows and toilet paper as well as kitchen pots, pans, microwave, coffee maker and dinnerware. The one negative is that it is located right next to I-69 and the constant traffic noise mixes with the birdsong and sounds of nature. An attempt is made to keep this a quiet place to connect with the natural world. Swimming is not allowed in Gentian Lake, but there are two beaches and a swimming pool available at Pokagen. No boats with gas motors are allowed on the lake and fishing is allowed only from the fishing pier or boat - no fishing from along the lakeshore. There is no camping area here, but the camping area at Pokagen Sate Park is nearby. ![]() The cabins and lodge can be reserved through the state parks central reservation system. There are trails, family cabins, a welcome center, picnic areas, and a lodge with a kitchen, dining area, lounge area, and meeting room for up to 26 persons. It includes a kettle lake (Lake Gentian), wooded hills, open meadows, and wetlands. It is near Pokagen State Park and operated in conjunction with that park. This former private nature center and church camp was recently acquired by the state of Indiana and was opened as a state recreation area in 2014.
