copy and paste content into another document. However, in this case it’s worse than that because the document has already been decrypted. So, what about Word’s in-built editing protection? Is that effective at preventing sharing? Restrict editing in Word: is it effective?Īs you would expect, Word’s restrict editing feature has the same issue as any other password protection: sharing and cracking. But even then, due to the human nature present in password choice, it is of limited effectiveness. Ultimately, then, password encryption only protects documents from being intercepted and when they are sitting on the recipient’s PC, unopened. If there are no additional editing or copy protection controls, a user with the password can just copy the content to another file or into an email or text chat and share the file that way. The same applies to the contents of the document itself. This could be intentional, in the case of an internal leak, or unintentionally, through social engineering, the storage of the password in an insecure location, etc. Any legitimate user that you give the document to, along with the password, can share both of those things with an unauthorized party. The bigger issue, however, is not that passwords are crackable, but that they are shareable. And make no mistake – after decades of passwords being used for everything from social media to bank accounts, tools have become very effective at cracking them. This fact applies to Word documents just as well as it does to other Office docs, PDFs, password-based folder encryption, etc. Instead of requiring a long, complex, and randomly generated encryption key, all an attacker needs is a human-created, often short and simple, encryption password. The issue shared by all password-based encryption mechanisms is that they take a strong encryption algorithm (such as AES) and make it far less secure. The problem with password-based encryption This does not use encryption and is instead enforced by the software, which disables the ability to type, delete characters, and modify formatting. Microsoft Word has another, lesser-used password protection that controls whether or not users can edit. Entering the password allows a user to decrypt the document and therefore view and edit it. While the document remains encrypted, it cannot be read – presenting itself as a jumble of numbers and letters to anybody who does not hold the decryption key. Microsoft Word uses simple yet effective encryption for its document protection. Given the sensitive nature of some of these documents, it’s natural that businesses want to secure them. It’s used for anything from note-taking to documentation, contracts, reports, and legal documents. How does Microsoft Word password protection work?ĭespite heavy competition from the likes of Google Docs, Microsoft Word has remained the text editor of choice for many businesses.

Lindsey started modeling at the age of 15, and by 2011 she was dubbed a "Supermodel at 17" by CNN, which followed the then-teenager's every move while she worked during Fashion Week and when she returned to her hometown. In July 2017 Lindsey Wixson, once a runway darling, retired at the age of 23 due to a foot injury, ending her career when others her age are landing their first jobs out of college. Instead of her topless Alexander McQueen moment causing a stir, Gisele became a star, and by 19 she was offered a contract with Victoria's Secret worth $25 million, which catapulted her into becoming one of the highest-paid models of all time. Gisele Bündchen (pictured below, in the '90s) was just 14 when she began taking modeling seriously in her native Brazil, and she was just 17 when she hit the catwalk topless for Alexander McQueen's shower-themed Spring/Summer 1998 show. Tyra Banks has been vocal about her early days of modeling, having started her career at 15 and becoming a sensation at Paris Fashion Week by the age of 18. Younger models often have the tall, lean body type high-fashion brands adore, making younger models the ideal, season after season. Models today may seem to be younger than previous generations, but the fashion industry's preference for teens who have barely reached the legal driving age is far from a new occurrence. That's how old I was when I started, which is young, but in fashion that's kind of the normal age when people start."Ĭindy's right. "In some ways, I wish I could have pushed it off a year or two. I'm a lot more concerned about her driving by herself than her entering the world of modeling," Cindy said. "My daughter just got her driver's license. When asked about Kaia modeling at such a young age, Cindy told the Associated Press that she was more concerned about Kaia hitting the road than hitting the runway. Fast-forward to the beginning of 2018, and Kaia has donned everything from Tom Ford and Alexander Wang in New York to Chanel in Paris and Fendi in Milan, and her career is only just getting started. The daughter of icon Cindy Crawford, Kaia made her runway debut in the Raf Simons Calvin Klein Spring/Summer 2018 show just four days after her 16th birthday. Gisele Fox, now 17, was just 16 when she breezed down runways for Prada, Calvin Klein, Dior, and Hermès, and she's poised to be a runway regular.Īt 16, Kaia Gerber's supermodel status is on the rise. Scouted at the age of 12, she was opening shows for Dries Van Noten and Versus Versace while walking in 24 shows for the Spring/Summer 2018 season by the age of 16. Last year was a breakout year for British teenager Hannah Motler (pictured above). The fashion industry has long been unabashed about its preference for young, fresh faces, especially on the runways of New York, Paris, London, and Milan, but with models strutting down catwalks at the age of 16 and ending their careers (or having their careers ended for them) by 28, has the industry gone too far when it comes to young models on the runway? If you are a model, you'd be lucky if you make it to your 30th birthday before hanging up the heels and saying so long to the runway. In the United States, the average American can expect to retire from the workforce by the age of 63. Amy joins the Acolytes of the Reaper, which is a cult who waits for the Reaper to take them. She visits Danton and learns that she is itching to launch an attack on Tiberius, but lacks the manpower. When she wakes up, she is a friend’s house and has been in a coma for three weeks. However, she gets mortally wounded and almost bleeds to death. She is attacked by a guard, but manages to kill him. Amy cannot save her friend and tries to flee. She goes to Willowdale Plaza and finds her friend who is being tortured by two guards. However, when she gets to Danton she is told that the lottery is just a farce and that they can track the person with each number they are using her friend as a bait to get Amy. Through a public announcement she hears that her ticket won and Amy believes it’s a coincidence. Before Amy goes there, she gives her lottery ticket to a friend, because she already had a dose of the vaccine and therefore does not need it anymore. She finds a hidden message and learns that Danton has survived and fled to the reactor base. When she arrives at the rebel’s hideout, everyone is dead. However, Amy manages to escape with the help of a red-eyed raven. He also wants to eliminate Danton and the rest of the rebels. Tiberius visits her and reveals that he had put a listening device on her and telling her she failed the loyalty test. However, she is arrested and put into prison where she is supposed to stay until she will be executed. Amy realizes that the government has been lying all along. Afterwards, she breaks into the storage room and finds it full of vaccine enough to treat the whole population for years. In a disguise Amy visits the doctor and gets a dose of the vaccine. With the card, she is able to enter the Ministry. She steals an appointment card that was meant for Harrison. In order to do so, Danton should go to Fripp Square and visit Silas Harrison, a noble who has shown signs of Green Lung and who will be visited by a doctor.Īmy manages to find Harrison’s manor and breaks in. Danton reveals to Amy that the letter contains important information from the Ministry of Medicine and wants Amy to infiltrate the Ministry. However, the rebels get wind of that and want to use Amy as a double agent. As she is interested in the vaccine, she agrees. When she tells Tiberius about that, he asks her to become a spy and find out what the rebels plan. Amy finds the secret hideout of Danton and her rebel cause she delivers the letter. When she tells him about the letter from the dying man, he orders her to deliver it. She returns to the Ministry of Energy where she receives her lottery ticket from the head of the aristocracy, Tiberius. Amy puts him out of his misery, but before that he gives her a letter for someone named Danton. In the underground reactor base she finds a man who has been crushed under some rubble that came down from the ceiling. The city is ruled by Aristocrats, a faceless oligarchy that controls all resources and have unchallenged authority.Īmy Wellard suffers from Green Lung and is on a so-called lottery job, repairing a reactor, in order to receive a lottery ticket. In a lottery, poor people have the chance to win the vaccine. There is no permanent cure for Green Lung, only a temporary vaccine that has to be renewed on a regular basis to be effective and that only the rich can afford. Furthermore, a deadly disease costs the lives of many: Green Lung. Little shards of uranium glass are spread everywhere and emit a glowing green light the main source of artificial light in the city. The world is left devastated and the sky has turned brown. Shardlight is set in November in a post-apocalyptic city, 20 years after World War III. When mating is successful, cows bear a single calf the following spring. While competition can be high, it is more commonly a display of their antlers, necks, and bodies than an opportunity to harm others. During this time, bulls become more aggressive and will charge at one another and lock antlers to battle for dominant status and access to females. Elk rut, or mating, in these groups occurs in late summer and fall. A mature single bull will attract a small group of cows and work to expel other males from the group. Who goes there? A bull and group of cows at Redwood National and State Parks.Įlk reach maturity around the age of two, although bulls may not mate until they are older. Elk may also squeal, bark, chirp, mew, or use body language to communicate with one another. This is especially common by bulls competing for dominance during the mating season. Elk communicate by bugling, which is a combination of roaring and whistling at the same time. BehaviorĬows and their young live in loose herds, while bulls live alone or in “bachelor” groups until the mating season. Heavy browsing or too many elk can, in turn, leave an area overgrazed and depleted. They will often consume a favorite food until it is gone before moving on to their next favorite, and then their next, and so on. In fall and winter, they browse on higher-growing vegetation such as sprouts and branches of shrubs and trees that are within reach. In the spring and summer, they will primarily graze on low-lying grasses, flowers, ferns, lichens, and shrubs. DietĮlk are herbivores, meaning that they only eat plants. This species is also seasonally migratory, travelling from higher elevations in the summer months to valleys in the winter in search of food and shelter. They prefer “edge” environments, such as grassy fields near forested areas, which offer quick protection from lurking predators or poor weather conditions. Roosevelt elk live in coastal forests and mountains throughout the Pacific Northwest, west of the Cascades, from northern California to southern British Columbia and Alaska. Males, or bulls, are larger than females (cows) and have large antlers, usually with six tines, that they shed and regrow every year! Habitat and Distribution These stats make elk one of the largest members of the deer family, Cervidae, which includes deer, elk, moose, and caribou. The play was adapted to a made-for-TV movie in 1968, with Falk debuting in the role. In 1962, that episode became a stage play titled Prescription: Murder (starring Thomas Mitchell as Columbo, Joseph Cotten and Agnes Moorehead as Roy and Claire Flemming, and Patricia Medina as Flemming's mistress ). With a dashboard design that mimics what's in flashier and pricier Land Rovers, the Discovery Sport maintains the brand's upscale image. For more information about the Discovery Sport's fuel economy, visit the EPA's website. Even the six-cylinder BMW X3 M40i managed 29 mpg in our testing, and other all-wheel-drive rivals, such as the Acura RDX, managed 25 mpg. It was particularly greedy for fuel during our 75-mph highway fuel-economy test, where it delivered a lackluster 21 mpg. Compared with other luxury compact SUVs, the Land Rover is thirsty. The Discovery Sport's EPA fuel-economy estimates are 19 mpg city, 23 mpg highway, and 20 mpg combined. 2024 LR Discovery Sport Adds 11.4-Inch Touchscreen. On the plus side, the Discovery Sport delivers a comfortable ride for cruising. Handling isn't particularly crisp, so don't expect to wring thrills from curvy back roads. We tested a 2020 model with the 246-hp engine and found it to be rather sluggish throttle response is lazy, and the Disco Sport requires 7.5 seconds to reach 60 mph. The Disco Sport can even wade into as much as 23.6 inches of water (for those who dare) and tow up to 4409 pounds. Of course, standard all-wheel drive-along with a host of optional trail-rated equipment-helps the Sport glide over bumpy terrain and weather any storm. Engine, Transmission, and PerformanceĮvery Discovery Sport has a turbocharged four-cylinder powertrain that makes 246 horsepower. We'd splurge on the Comfort package, which adds ambient interior lighting, rear climate controls, and a cabin air purification system. It comes with plenty of creature comforts and convenience features, including power front seats, a Meridian stereo system, a digital gauge display, wireless smartphone charging, and a panoramic glass roof. It too is less practical, but it's an appealing alternative.Although it's the entry point to the Discovery Sport, we'd stick with the S model. It's stylish, even several years after launch, drives better than the Discovery Sport, and has the same engine range. Those seeking more performance than practicality should seek out the Porsche Macan (no seven-seat option, but fantastic to drive), while it's worth considering some models from non-premium marques too, which trade a neighbour-impressing badge for great value and plenty of space.Īnd of course, you shouldn't forget about Land Rover's own Range Rover Evoque. It's handsome (more so in regular form than the slightly unusual GLC Coupe), refined, comfortable and has surprising off-road chops (if not quite in Land Rover's league), while it too has a performance model - the satisfyingly swift Mercedes-AMG GLC 43. Mercedes-Benz too offers a similarly-sized SUV in the shape of the Mercedes-Benz GLC. It drives well, has a good engine range and packs plenty of tech into its cabin. The BMW X3 is also worth a look, making its larger X5 counterpart seem almost superfluous. In its recent suite of revisions, Land Rover has also added three features to HSE Luxury models that most customers were selecting as options anyway: 20in 'Aeroviper' alloy wheels, USB ports in the second and third rows, and third-row climate control with rear-facing vents. The HSE Luxury enhances all of this while adding more driver assist tech such as Park Assist. The former features a panoramic sunroof, electrically adjusted leather seats, upgraded headlights with Xenon and LED technology, keyless entry, 19-inch wheels and a few other visual identifiers. From there up the Discovery Sport makes a rather good impersonation of the Range Rover range, with HSE and HSE Luxury models. The 148bhp car is five-seat-only regardless of trim level, but 178bhp models all get the '5+2' seating arrangement - seven seats, in other words.įor £1,500, SE Tech adds a powered tailgate, front fog lights, auto lights and wipers, front parking sensors and satellite navigation. All are powered by the same 2.0-litre Ingenium turbodiesel engine and the automatic gearbox comes at a £1,805 premium.Įntry-level cars are badged SE, but even they come with partial leather upholstery, Bluetooth, DAB, Land Rover's new 'InControl Remote' system, an eight-inch colour touchscreen, climate control, heated windscreen, cruise control, heated front seats and 18-inch alloy wheels. On-the-road prices for the Discovery Sport start at £28,995 and rise to £46,510. The cabins aren't cabins - they're very nice hotel-style rooms. No individual fire rings are allowed - you have to share a communal one sitting next to a busy road. There are numerous arbitrary rules that other State SRAs don't have. In all, the Web advertisement for these is deceptive. We had neighbors you could hear talking through the bathroom wall, even though they were being quiet. My significant other and I rented there to get some quality private time. While ReservationAmerica shows them as individual, they aren't. Here's your first warning - these aren't cabins - they are duplexes. DNR did, however, drive by the cabins at least a few times a day. Overall, if it weren't for the missing staff and mowing I would give a 5. We had someone come and mow around the cabin an hour or so before check out which seemed like a hint. Yes, you DO have to clean the cabin to look as nice as it did when you arrived, and you ARE expected to leave on time. Boating and paddle boats available to rent for a good price. There are not individual cabin picnic tables but there are a few shelters and basketball court which is very nice. There are nice paved bike trails and a few walking trails as well. There was no staff on arrival at 4pm but they came quickly when rang. Each cabin has a small outdoor grill (bring your briquettes). The park sign is small so keep your eyes out for your turn or you will miss it! There is a shared fire pit but we had it to ourselves. There are pillows and toilet paper as well as kitchen pots, pans, microwave, coffee maker and dinnerware. The one negative is that it is located right next to I-69 and the constant traffic noise mixes with the birdsong and sounds of nature. An attempt is made to keep this a quiet place to connect with the natural world. Swimming is not allowed in Gentian Lake, but there are two beaches and a swimming pool available at Pokagen. No boats with gas motors are allowed on the lake and fishing is allowed only from the fishing pier or boat - no fishing from along the lakeshore. There is no camping area here, but the camping area at Pokagen Sate Park is nearby. The cabins and lodge can be reserved through the state parks central reservation system. There are trails, family cabins, a welcome center, picnic areas, and a lodge with a kitchen, dining area, lounge area, and meeting room for up to 26 persons. It includes a kettle lake (Lake Gentian), wooded hills, open meadows, and wetlands. It is near Pokagen State Park and operated in conjunction with that park. This former private nature center and church camp was recently acquired by the state of Indiana and was opened as a state recreation area in 2014. |
